MindMeister Map Editor Makeover

These updates are available to all users.


In October 2024, the MindMeister editor received a significant update. With more intuitive menus, toolbars, and better access to topic options, it’s easier than ever to create and edit maps. Here’s what’s changed:

  • Access actions instantly by clicking on any topic
  • Add a new floating topic with one click in the right-hand toolbar
  • Create tasks from ideas via the topic toolbar
  • Access the search bar from the top-left
  • View in presentation mode or export from the top-right

Floating Topic Toolbar

The new floating topic toolbar is smaller and more accessible. When you click on a topic, the toolbar will appear with all possible actions.

New Actions in Each Corner

The actions in each corner have been updated:

  • Search is now in the top-left corner.
  • Export options have moved to the top-right corner.
  • Presentation view is located in the top-right corner.
  • Floating topic and redo/undo options are now in the right vertical toolbar.
  • Focus Mode and Center are available in the bottom-left corner.

Where can I find the floating topics feature?

Floating topics are text elements that are not connected to the mind map’s central topic. You can find the Floating Topics feature in the vertical toolbar on the right-hand side of the screen.

Where is Focus Mode?

To access Focus Mode, hover over the toolbar in the bottom-left corner. You will see the option to enable Focus Mode appear.

After enabling Focus Mode, the toolbar in the bottom-left corner will remain visible. You cannot hide or remove it.

To exit Focus Mode, click on the same icon again.

How can I create tasks in a mind map?

The task icon is located in the central floating toolbar. To access it:

  1. Click on a topic to open the floating toolbar.
  2. Select the task icon to create a task.

How can I style my topic?

You can style your topic in two ways:

  • Use the Text Style menu to change the color or font of the text.
  • Use the Topic Style menu to change the color or shape of your topic.

How can I search in a mind map?

The search function is still available in the top-left corner of the mind map. It has been moved.

How do I add a link to a mind map?

Follow these steps to add a link:

  1. Copy the link to your clipboard.
  2. Open your mind map.
  3. Select the topic where you want to add the link.
  4. Paste the link while the topic is selected.

How can I use multiple layouts in a single mind map?

For now, MindMeister only supports: 

  • Changing the layout for the root topic and floating topics
  • Combining the Org Chart and List layouts in any topic

Adding multiple layouts to your map may cause certain topics to overlap! For now, MindMeister only supports combining the Org Chart and List layouts to avoid this issue.
