Format Topics

You can quickly format individual topics in your mind map using the sidebar on the right side of the map editor. In this article we'll go over all formatting options one by one:

1. Font Size and Font Style

At the very top of the sidebar, you'll find the options to change the font size and font style of your topic.

  • Please note that both of these options affect the entire selected topic. It is currently not possible to apply formatting options only to selected parts of the text in a topic.

2. Color, Style and Boundary

Below the font size and style options, you'll see three buttons, which you can use to switch between the Color, Style and Boundary tabs.

2.1 Color:

The Color tab is shown by default, but if you don't see it, click on the Color button (paint brush) to display them.

To change the font color of your topic, make sure that Text is selected and then click on a color of your choice.

To change the background color of your topic, make sure that Background is selected (2) and then click on a color of your choice.

2.2 Style:

Switch to the Style tab (1) to select one of our premade topic styles (2) from the list.

Alternatively, you can click on Customize (3) to create your own perfect topic style. This will open the Format Topic dialog (shown below), where you can choose one of six different fonts, select a border style, border color, and much more.

As a Pro or Business user you can also save those creations for yourself and the rest of your team. To do this, simply click on Save... after you've finished formatting your topic. In the next dialog, choose whether to save your creation as a new style or overwrite an existing one, and then confirm with OK.

2.3 Boundary

A boundary always affects the selected topic and all of its sub topics. This enables you to visually group ideas together and highlight entire branches in your mind map.

Switch to the Boundary tab (1) and then select one of our premade boundary options from the list (2). Alternatively, you can click on Customize (3) to create your own perfect topic boundary, and - as a Pro or Business user - save it for re-use.
