Generate Mind Maps with AI (Beta)

Generate with AI is available on all MindMeister plans. You can generate a complete mind map from a prompt, a file upload, or a combination of both.

This feature is currently only available on the web version of MindMeister.

With MindMeister AI, you can turn ideas, notes, or documents into structured mind maps in seconds. Simply enter a prompt, upload a file, or combine both to automatically generate a map with organized branches and topics.

Where can I access Create with AI?

The Generate with AI option is available wherever you normally create a new mind map.

You can access it from:

  • Home
  • My Maps
  • Team Maps
  • Favorites

When creating a new map, select the Generate with AI option to open the AI generation dialog.

Create a mind map with a prompt

You can generate a complete mind map by describing the topic you want to explore. MindMeister AI will automatically organize your ideas into branches and subtopics.

To create a map from a prompt:

  1. Click Generate with AI from Home or another map overview.
  2. Enter a short prompt describing your topic.
  3. Click Generate map.

MindMeister will automatically create a structured mind map based on your prompt.

Create a mind map from a file

You can also generate a mind map from an existing document or image. MindMeister AI analyzes the uploaded content and extracts key ideas to build a structured map.

Supported file types include:

  • PDF
  • .docx
  • .xlsx
  • .pptx
  • Image files

To create a map from a file:

  1. Click Generate with AI.
  2. Upload a supported file.
  3. Optional: add a prompt to guide the AI.
  4. Click Generate map.

The AI will analyze the file and automatically convert the main ideas into a structured mind map.

Customize your AI-generated mind map

After generating a mind map, you can quickly adjust its appearance and layout using the toolbar in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

These controls allow you to refine how your map looks without manually editing each branch.

With the toolbar, you can:

  • Change the map theme
  • Adjust the layout of your branches
  • Provide feedback on the generated result

Theme and layout options were previously available, but are now easier to access directly from the toolbar, so you can quickly fine-tune your map after generation.

Combine prompts and files

For more precise results, you can combine a file upload with a prompt. This allows you to guide how the AI structures the generated map.

For example, you could:

  • Upload meeting notes and ask the AI to create a project plan
  • Upload a presentation and request a simplified summary map
  • Upload research material and ask for key themes

Daily AI generation limit

To ensure fair usage during the Beta phase, the AI map generator currently has a usage limit.

Daily generation limit

Each user can generate up to 5 AI mind maps per day.

Once you reach this limit, a notification will appear in the interface. You can generate additional maps again the next day.

AI usage and privacy

MindMeister AI uses external AI models to generate mind maps based on your prompts and uploaded files.

By using this feature, you agree to Meister’s AI usage policies.
