Leave a map you no longer need access to

Who can use this feature?

All users can leave a mind map that someone else has shared with them.

If someone has shared a mind map with you and you no longer need it, you can leave the mind map. This removes you from the mind map's list of collaborators, and the mind map disappears from your map list.

On the Basic plan, leaving mind maps you no longer need is also a way to free up access to other mind maps if you are over the 3-map limit.

Leave a mind map that was shared with you

If you are not the Content Manager of a mind map, you leave it by moving it to the trash. To do this:

  1. Open your map list.
  2. Find the mind map you want to leave and click on the three dots (...) (Map Actions menu) on the right.
  3. Select Move to Trash.

You can also leave several mind maps at once:

  1. Select several mind maps by ticking their boxes.
  2. Click on the three dots (...) (Map Actions menu) on the top.
  3. Select the option Move to Trash.
Why "Move to Trash"?

Only Content Managers can delete a mind map. If you are not the Content Manager, Move to Trash does not delete the mind map. It only removes you from the mind map's list of collaborators.

Are you the Content Manager of the mind map?

If you are the Content Manager, Move to Trash moves the mind map to the trash for everyone. Learn more about deleting and restoring mind maps.

What happens to the mind map when you leave it?

  • The mind map is not deleted. It stays available to everyone else who has access to it.
  • The owner keeps the mind map and all its content.
  • You are removed from the list of collaborators, and the mind map no longer appears in your map list.

Can you get access to a mind map again after leaving it?

Yes, but you can't rejoin on your own. To get access again, ask the owner of the mind map to share it with you again via the Share dialog.

Free up access to a grayed-out mind map on the Basic plan

On the Basic plan, you can access up to 3 mind maps. This limit includes mind maps you created and mind maps that have been shared with you.

The 3 mind maps that stay available are your 3 oldest mind maps by creation date. All newer mind maps are grayed out: you can see them in your list, but you can't open them. Grayed-out mind maps are not deleted.

Leave an older mind map to open a newer one

Leaving a grayed-out mind map does not free up access. To open a grayed-out mind map, you need to leave or delete one of your 3 oldest mind maps. The next oldest grayed-out mind map then becomes accessible.

Example: You have access to 5 mind maps. Mind maps A, B and C are your 3 oldest, so they are available. Mind maps D and E are newer, so they are grayed out. If you leave mind map B, mind map D becomes accessible. Mind map E stays grayed out.

To free up access, you can:

  • Leave an older shared mind map you no longer need, as described above.
  • Delete an older mind map you created and no longer need.
  • Upgrade to a paid plan to access an unlimited number of mind maps.
