Add Connections Between Topics

This feature is available to all users.


Add connections between topics to show relationships between ideas, draw links, and make your map more visual.

Add a Connection Between Two Topics

  1. Click the topic you'd like to add a connection to.
  2. Click Connection.
  3. Click one of the green plus signs around your topic to choose a connection point.
  4. Drag the connection line to the topic you'd like to connect to. You do not need to hold the mouse button down.
  5. Click one of the four connection points on the other topic.
  6. To move a connecting line, click the line and drag its middle point.

Keyboard shortcuts

To create a connection using keyboard shortcuts, select a topic and press ALT + C.


Create a New Topic While Connecting

You can also create a new topic directly in connector mode. This is useful when you want to add and connect a new idea in one step.

  1. Click the topic you'd like to connect from.
  2. Click Connection.
  3. Click one of the green plus signs around your topic to choose a connection point.
  4. Drag the connection line to an empty space on the map.
  5. Click the empty space to create a new topic that is automatically connected to your original topic.

This is a quick way to continue brainstorming without leaving connector mode.


Edit a Connection’s Style

After drawing a connection, you can change its color, style, shape, and start and end icons. To do this, click the connection, then choose an option from the menu that appears:

 

  1. Style: Change the color, shape, and appearance of your connection line.
  2. Line start: Select a new icon for the beginning of your connection.
  3. Switch direction: Switch the start and end icons of your connection.
  4. Line end: Select a new icon for the end of your connection.

Remove a Connection

To permanently delete a connection:

 

  1. Click the connection.
  2. In the menu that appears, click More (...).
  3. Select Delete Connection from the drop-down menu.

Add a Label to a Connection

Add a label to a connection line to name the relationship between two connected topics.

 

  1. Click the connection to select it.
  2. In the menu that appears, select More (...).
  3. Select Add Label from the drop-down menu.
  4. Enter your label and press ENTER. Use the colon (:) to add emojis.

Delete labels

To delete a label, click More (...) and select Delete Label, or delete the text in the label manually.
