Creating Connections

This article will help you add connections to your map. It includes the following information:

How to Show Relationships Between Topics

Connection lines show a relationship between two topics. You can add multiple connections in any mind map and customize the lines to suit your needs.

 

Add a Connection Between Two Map Topics

  1. Select the topic that you wish to add a connection from. The context menu bar will appear.
  2. Click the Connect icon, hold Alt/Option or press Alt/Option + C.

  3. You will see a green outline and four green + icons that indicate your placement options.

  4. Click and hold a green + and drag your cursor to the topic you want to connect to. 
  5. Hover over the topic you want to connect. A green outline and four points will indicate your chosen topic. 
  6. Drop the connection line on one of the four points on the second topic.

Move a Connection

Once you’ve created a connection, you are able to move it to different points on a topic or to another topic entirely. 

  1. Hover your mouse over the connection point you want to move. 
  2. Click and hold the point. You will be able to freely move the connection point to any topic on the map.
  3. Drag and drop the connection point in the desired location.

 

Remove a Connection

If you’d like to delete a connection:

  1. Select the connection you want to remove. 
  2. Click the ellipsis (...) on the Connection Toolbar.

Update the Connection's Style

After drawing a connection, you can update the connection’s style and appearance. To do this, click on the connection line to select it.

The Connection Toolbar will appear with style options. In the Style panel, you can customize the color, style, and shape of the connection line.

  1. Color. Changes the color of the selected Connection.
  2. Style. Changes between dotted, dashed or solid lines.
  3. Shape. Changes between straight and dynamic lines.

  4. Start/End Points. Change the shape of the start and endpoint of your connection.

  5. Angle. Adjust the angle of the connection by dragging the center dot on the connection line.

Add Labels to your Connections

You can add labels to your connections to name the relationship between topics.

  1. Select the connection you want to label.
  2. Click the ellipsis (...) on the Connection Toolbar.

  3. Select "Add Label" from the drop-down menu.

  4. Enter a label for your connection.
