You can import any digital mind map which uses MindMeister, MindManager, XMind or Freemind formats. You can also import RTF files - just be sure to format them properly. For more information, read this article.
Markdown files can't be imported
You can export mind maps as Markdown (.md) files, but you can't import .md files into MindMeister.
Exporting mind maps requires a Personal, Pro or Business plan.
Paying users can export as PDF, Image, Text (.rtf), MindMeister (.mind), Freemind, XMind, MindManager, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Markdown (.md) and Zip Presentations. Find out more here.
Why export as Markdown? A Markdown file drops straight into docs, wikis and READMEs. With the Show as Mermaid diagram option turned on (it's on by default), your map is exported as a Mermaid diagram. It displays as a picture in GitHub, Notion and Obsidian, and you can bring it into diagramming and whiteboarding tools.
